Microchip Technology MCP16503 (EV05A95A) Evaluation Board

Microchip Technology MCP16503 (EV05A95A) Evaluation Board evaluates the capabilities of the MCP16503 high-performance Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC), designed for general-purpose eMPUs (Embedded Microprocessor Units), that require Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS). The adjustability is achieved by using selection resistors for each regulator. The Microchip Technology EV05A95A features four DC-DC buck converters capable of delivering 1A each, two LDOs with 300mA current capability, I2C programmable output voltages, and four operating modes: Active, Low Power, Hibernate, and High-Performance Mode.

Features

  • 2.7V to 5.5V input voltage range
  • Four 1A output current buck channels with 100% maximum duty cycle capability
  • 2MHz buck channels, PWM operation
  • Two auxiliary 300mA low-dropout linear regulators (LDOs)
  • Resistor selectable output voltage for the default startup and I2C output voltage configuration following system startup (DVS)
  • Adjustable output voltage from 0.6V to 1.85V (only for Buck 2, 3, and 4)
  • Adjustable output voltage from 1.2V to 3.7V (only for Buck 1, LDO1 and LDO2)
  • MPU-specific built-in default channel sequencing and nRSTO assertion delay
  • Shutdown input pin (EN)
  • Support of MPU hibernate, low-power, and high-performance modes with DVS
  • 1MHz I2C interface for programming and diagnostics
  • Low noise, forced PWM (FPWM), and low IQ, light load, high-efficiency mode available
  • I2C-selectable displacement (±16.5%) of PWM switching frequency
  • Less than 300μA low-power mode typical quiescent current
  • 10μA maximum shutdown current (VIN = 4.5V, TJ = +105°C)
  • Thermal shutdown and current limit protection
  • User-programmable overcurrent fault response

Applications

  • High-performance, general-purpose MPUs
  • µC/µP, FPGA, and DSP power
